This course is suitable for candidates wishing to act as a First Aider at Work. It is HSE approved and certificated course.
The candidate must be physically able to carry out the procedures detailed in the course outline and must attend entire course to be eligible for assessment.
This course provides an indepth understanding on the role of the First Aider at work.
The following topics are covered:
Communicating with a casualty
Contents of First Aid kit and avoiding cross infection
Recording of incidents and accidents
Assess the situation and circumstances in order to act safety, promptly and effectively in an emergency
Administer first aid to a casualty who is:
Unconscious (including seizures)
Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation
Choking
Wounded & Bleeding
Shock
Burns & Scalds
Eye Injuries
Administer first aid to a casualty with: Injuries to bones, muscles & joints including suspected spinal injury
Chest Injuries
Sudden Poisoning
Anaphylactic Shock
Recognise the presence of major illness and provide appropriate first aid including heart attack, stroke, epilepsy, asthma & diabetes
Administer Aspirin
Assessment method:
The assessment will be an ongoing process carried out by trainer. The trainer will undertake oral questions and scenarios. Final practical assessment completed by qualified assessors who have not been involved in the training.
Renewal:
Valid for 3 years or as directed by the HSE Completing a 2-day FAW Re-qualification course.
The candidates attending with existing certificate must be valid for the duration of the FAW Re-qualification course.
The certificate may be renewed up to 3 months early, with the unexpired portion added to the length of the new certificate.
